Massey Ferguson RB 4160V Protec (Protection baler & Professional Technology) combines all benefits of our variable chamber baler with the addition of an integrated wrapper device for fast and effective baling and wrapping on the go.

Key Benefits

High Performance Wrapping: The new combination unit has a lower crop elevation angle, reducing the overall baler height. This feature improves stability, allowing safer and faster hillside operation. It also reduces back pressure in the feeding area, streamlining crop flow and minimising the risk of blockages.
Baler Wrapper Combination : Our new MF RB 4160V Protec baler combines all benefits of our variable chamber baler with the addition of an integrated, specially designed wrapper device for fast and effective baling and wrapping on the go.
Camless Design: The baler features a 2.25m pick-up with a camless design offering higher working speed, reduced maintenance and reduced noise levels.
Xtracut: The Xtracut cutter is offered with 17 knives, providing optimum cutting performance in all conditions.
Constant Pressure System (cps): The Constant Pressure System (CPS) combines spring and hydraulic actions and ensures constant pressure during bale formation.

Performance Features

Xtracut: Designed for optimum performance, Massey Ferguson Xtracut can be equipped with 13, 17 or 25 knives. Cutter units are fitted with the longest knives on the market, making sure that no material will pass through uncut.
Xtracut Knife Banks: Xtracut 17 and 25 feature two sets of hydraulically operated knife banks with separate control from the cab depending on customer requirements. The operator can select: a single knife bank, both knife banks or disengagement of all knives.
Higher Bale Compaction: The constant pressure system ensures an equally dense bale throughout, and four continuous belts provide maximum traction while the bale forms, creating the chamber.
Cps Hydraulic Pressure: Depending on the baler specification, the maximum hydraulic system pressure in the bale tensioning arms can reach 140 or 180Bar.
Cps Results: The end-result is uniform round bales with a firm and consistent shape, making them easy to handle and store with excellent crop conservation.

Efficiency Features

Maximum Throughput: The HydroFlex Drop Floor features heavy mechanical springs that allow the knife bed to float open slightly when an obstruction occurs. If the rotor is plugged, the operator can hydraulically drop the floor from the tractor cab to clear the plug.
Hydroflex Control - Stage 1: The first stage of HydroFlex™ Control allows movement of the front part of the feed chamber floor and will automatically prevent up to 80% of potential blockages to avoid unnecessary downtime.
Hydroflex Control – Stage 2: Should a major blockage occur, stage two of HydroFlex Control is activated by the operator and is cleared by lowering the rear of the feed table floor hydraulically from the cab, allowing for material to easily pass through.
Protec Control Panel: An external control panel on the back of the baler allows control of the tailgate, wrapping ring and table and the film clamps for easy film roll change, maintenance or cleaning.
Protec Transport Mode: In transport mode the wrapper ring is folded forwards, reducing the overall machine length to just 5.9m for safer transport and improved manoeuvrability.
Protec Slope Transfer Mode: For added safety on hillside conditions this mode allows for the transfer arm to move more slowly while the wrapper ring is lifted higher to receive the bale. This ensures that the bale will be securely delivered to the wrapper even in sloping terrain.
Protec Guiding Plates: In addition to the transfer arm, the new design features two active guiding plates on both sides of the baler clearly directing the bale to the centre of the wrapper plate allowing for a faster and more secure transfer cycle.
Protec Combination Unit: The unit has a lower crop elevation angle, reducing the overall baler height. This improves stability, allowing safer hillside operation. It also reduces back pressure in the feeding area, streamlining crop flow and minimising the risk of blockages.
Els Makes It Even Easier: The Easy Load System, or ELS, allows easier loading of the net roll. After loading, the new net roll is simply tipped backward, then lifted and locked into position. It makes the process simple, saving you time and effort.

Productivity Features

Pick-up Position: On the MF round balers, the pick-up is positioned very closely to the rotor, therefore improving crop flow and reducing the risk of blockage.
Protec Wrapper Table: The hydraulically driven wrapper table consists of two rollers and three endless belts mounted on a welded frame for extra durability.
Protec Wrapper Table Sensor: A sensor underneath the middle belt will allow for wrapping to begin only after the bale is fully positioned on the table, while four large side support rollers keep the bale centred while wrapping.
Protec Film Roll Holders: Twelve film roll holders are conveniently located at a comfortable height on both sides of the baler and with two additional rolls installed on the wrapper, increase uptime in the field.
Cam-less Pick-up: Higher operating speeds are possible with the MF cam-less pick-up design. With fewer moving parts, the cam-less pick-up is quieter, simpler and more reliable. Low maintenance and less adjustments save time and increase productivity.
Protec Wrapping Ring: The wrapping ring is driven by a set of two rubber rollers, ensuring plenty of gripping surface, eliminating slippage and reducing noise levels.
Protec Robust Frame: Designed to withstand the heaviest bale loads, the robust frame with its quiet running gear operates at up to 35 rpm smoothly for trouble free wrapping, bale after bale.
More Tine Bars: Due to the additional space created through the absence of a cam track, five tine bars are now fitted to the pickup. With the tines spaced just 2.5 inches apart, you get an even better and cleaner crop intake.
Optional Bale Tipper: An optional bale tipper puts bales on their ends, preventing them from rolling away and making for easier loading on the trailer. The operator can also choose between automatic and manual unloading modes.
Protec Bale Wrapping: Once the bale is transferred to the centre of the wrapper table, a hydraulically driven wrapper ring begins its rotation even before the tailgate is fully closed, completing the cycle well before the next bale is formed.
Protec Tires: Massey Ferguson Protec range is equipped with large low-pressure tires for reducing ground compaction. They permit greater stability and manoeuvrability on headlands without damaging turf also during very wet conditions.
Protec Bale Discharge: To ensure gentle bale unloading, the wrapping table is lowered, thus minimising the bale’s rolling speed, preventing film damage and maintaining the ideal bale shape.
Choice Of Pick-up: The baler features a choice of 2.25m or 2.40m pick-up with a camless design offering higher working speed, reduced maintenance and reduced noise levels.
Bale Chamber Belts: Four durable, double-ply, seamless belts have excellent grip on the bale. With two stretch-resistant core layers made of a special synthetic material, the belts can withstand high loads when forming heavy silage bales.
Bale Formation System: A patented bale formation system features a sliding tailgate that moves downwards as the bale forms allowing the growing bale to move backwards. The bale chamber has a small bale start-off section with two additional rollers for better bale formation.
Bale Chamber Side Panels: The bale chamber side panels are securely aligned during the production process with two large diameter tubes welded to the frame, providing a hardwearing and rigid connection for extended durability and better bale density control.
Varionet Wrapping: System provides edge-to-edge or edge-over-edge wrapping, for perfect bale coverage every time. This means your bales not only look great, but they’re also completely protected against bad weather and crop losses.

Farm Management Features

E-link Pro: The E-Link Pro touch-screen monitor lets you track bale formation, control cutter engagement and select knife group from inside the cab. In addition, the baler’s ISOBUS design allows the use of any compatible tractor monitor for baler monitoring/control.
E-link Pro Wizard: Specific field or customer information, such as the number of bales or hours worked, can easily be set and collected with the Wizard and later exported via a USB connection for easy management of records and further performance analysis.
Isobus: Utilising a single in-cab terminal in the tractor for all implements reduces cab clutter and can make for simpler and more accurate control by drivers who may carry out a wide range of operations with different machines.
Side Doors: Full width side doors provide easy access for maintenance. The smooth surface design prevents dust accumulation beneath the panels while secure locking prevents unintended opening and potential damage.
Powersplit Gearbox: The Powersplit gearbox equally divides and transfers power to drive the rotor unit on one side and the roller drives on the other, reducing the overall power requirements by simplifying the drivelines.
Centralized Grease Banks: Regular and sufficient lubrication of roller bearings is extremely important, particularly in adverse conditions. Centralized grease banks for roller bearing lubrication are located in convenient positions for easier access and reduced service time.
Automatic Chain Lubrication: Automatic chain lubrication with individual adjustment for each chain guarantees sufficient oil supply, reduces maintenance time and extends chain service life. For added durability the highest quality chains are used throughout the baler.
